AC Repair: Signs that Air Conditioner Repair is Needed

April 27, 2015

The days are getting longer and temperatures are getting warmer in Bartlesville, which means you’re going to be depending on your air conditioner to stay comfortable. The more you rely on your air conditioner, the greater the chance you’ll be in need of AC repair.

We have a few warning signs to look out for and some tips to let you know when it’s necessary to call in the experienced technicians from Farris Heating & Air to provide air conditioner service.

  • Air from vents isn’t cold – This is possibly one of the most prominent signs that your air conditioner has the need for repair. The key thing you’ll want to do is check your thermostat fan setting and ensure that it’s set to “auto” rather than “on”. If it’s set to “on” your AC will continually blow air even if it’s not currently being cooled. If your air conditioner is set to “auto” and it isn’t able to get to the temperature set on your thermostat, that is a sign that it’s time to call and get it checked out.
  • Decreased air flow – This issue isn’t as obvious as the previous, but if you think the air coming from your vents isn’t flowing as strongly as it had previously, there could be an issue. If you haven’t changed your air filter for some time, that would be the first place to check, your problem could be as uncomplicated as a dirty air filter. If that’s not the case and you’re still experiencing issues, you’ll want to call the professionals at Farris Heating & Air.
  • Strange sounds – Weird noises originating in your air conditioner isn’t a positive sign. If you hear any clinking or rattling coming from your air conditioner, turning your TV up so you can’t hear the sounds isn’t going to fix the problem. The moving parts within your air conditioner have been known to come loose through wear and tear and will have to be corrected by a professional.

Try to be mindful of how your air conditioner sounds and functions when it’s running well. This will make it easier to spot when things aren’t running properly.

Keeping up with annual maintenance is another way to determine any minor problems before they become major problems. If you haven’t yet made your your annual maintenance appointment with Farris Heating & Air, now is the perfect time.
